As the Deputy Commissioner for one of the country's largest social service agencies, Sandy ensures that NYC's underprivileged individuals receive the support they need to lead dignified lives. 

Her journey from facing life's harshest realities to becoming a pivotal figure in public service is not just inspiring—it's a powerful narrative of transformation and hope. Born into challenging circumstances, Sandy's early life was marked by trials that many would find insurmountable. A single mother and a high school dropout at the tender age of 17, she was once a recipient of the very benefits she oversees today. This unique perspective fuels her passion for uplifting those in need, particularly women who are striving to overcome similar adversities. In 1988, Sandy's life took a transformative turn when she met a group of women who offered guidance, support, and unconditional love. These mentors played a crucial role in reshaping her path, helping her to realize her potential and igniting a passion for public service. Over the next 35 years, Sandy's career flourished as she rose through the ranks, eventually leading programs that serve over 600,000 beneficiaries with a workforce of 400 dedicated employees. 

Sandy's academic journey is equally commendable. After earning her GED in 1989, she pursued higher education with vigor, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree from the College of New Rochelle followed by a Master's in Urban Affairs from Queens College in 2012. Her studies, focusing on mentoring at-risk youth, reflect her commitment to breaking the cycle of disadvantage and fostering a brighter future for the next generation. Her exemplary service has not gone unrecognized. In 2018, Sandy was honored with the Sloan Public Service Award by the Fund for the City of New York, a prestigious acknowledgment often likened to NYC's Nobel Peace Prize for Public Service. 

Beyond her professional achievements, Sandy is the visionary founder and CEO of Girls Just Want To Have Fun Inc. (GJWTHF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls and women. Through GJWTHF, Sandy creates platforms for sharing experiences, overcoming challenges, and designing futures filled with hope and joy. Her belief in the transformative power of community and support is at the heart of the organization's mission. Sandy's life story is a beacon of hope for many, embodying the belief that no matter one's origins or hardships, change and success are within reach.
